What is the Parent Council?
The Parent Council is a group of parents/carers who get together 5 or 6 times a year to look at how we can all collectively work together on improving the school.
What is the role of Parent Council?
The Parent Council helps to create an environment where all parents/carers should know that their views matter, and where they feel confident and comfortable putting them forward. They work on behalf of all parents/carers to discuss educational matters that are of importance to all. They do not get involved in individual matters relating to children or staff in the school.
How the meetings work:
We have the normal office bearers – Marianne as the Chair and Gillian as the Secretary. We have a set agenda that covers a council update, a school update and then any other relevant feedback, discussion points, concerns raised etc.
There is attendance from 3 or 4 teachers and around 9 parents/carers.
Parent Council:
- Work in partnership with the school to decide on the key priorities to take forward;
- Provide a voice for parents/carers in schools and in their local authority on issues that are important to them;
- Improve the school’s understanding of how to engage parents/carers in their children’s learning and in the life of the school;
- Support the school to develop strong home/school partnerships;
- Support improvement by discussing the school’s strengths and areas for development from a parental perspective;
- Help make links with the wider community;
- Capture the unique and varied skills, interests, knowledge and experience that parents/carers can offer.
Our aim for 2025/26 is to communicate more with the parent forum to both hear your views and keep you informed. There is no expectation for anyone to take on a formal role, we would just love for increased attendance, all input is valued and welcomed.
