Senior Awards Ceremony

As it is every year, Beath High School’s Senior Awards Ceremony on Thursday 11th September was a memorable and joyous celebration of the last twelve months. This was an opportunity for parents, carers, staff and, most importantly, pupils, to appreciate all that has been achieved- and there was a lot to celebrate.

This was highlighted when Rector Steve Ross noted his pride at the best set of results the school has had, and that he’d said the same thing last year, showing continuing improvements in attainment at Beath.

The school’s new Captains, Matthew Simonetti and Maya Brown introduced the evening, and spoke of how their lives have been shaped by their time at school: the sense of belonging they have felt, the experiences they have enjoyed, the aspirations nurtured by their teachers, the opportunities they have had for teamwork; indeed their honesty showed how they truly live the school’s core values.

The guest speaker of the night was Donnie Macleod, Executive Director, Education Service at Fife Council, and a man with many years of experience in education. He shared some of the wisdom he has acquired in that time, remembering several young people he has encountered over the years, with varied educational journeys, but with success achieved through hard work, dedication and following their passions. This message extended out into a challenge for all young learners at Beath: to follow their passions and to seize the day with persistence and dedication.

The awards followed, represented by all faculties in the school including, for the first time, the Supporting Learners Faculty, and truly showcased the remarkable and varied talents of Beath’s young learners. Alli Brady was awarded the Dux of the school for her outstanding exam results, while the Rector’s Quaich was awarded to Aimee Anwender in recognition of her tireless embodiment of the school values throughout her time at Beath- as a prefect, as a campaigner for better school meals, and as a member of Beath High School’s Malawi Group.

Awards were given for academic excellence, sporting prowess, community involvement, and the arts, the latter of which were also demonstrated through the beautiful musical pieces punctuating the evening. There were solo vocal performances from Aaron McGregor and Naomi Berry, a song from the school’s vocal group, and a solo violin piece from Chineneye Madu.

As guests enjoyed refreshments afterwards, with delicious cakes prepared by Home Economics pupils, they could surely reflect on a school continuing an exciting and positive journey, populated by truly remarkable young people.
